
Paddle Canada - Level 2 Instructor
Location: Norse Cove Kayak Centre - accommodation included
Earn national certification to teach and administer the Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level 2 Skills course. This five-day program is designed for advanced paddlers who hold Level 3 Skills and want to refine their leadership, teaching, and risk management in real coastal conditions.
You will prepare to instruct multi-day Level 2 courses along exposed coastlines with wind, waves, and current. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong Level 3 proficiency, including rolling and performing rescues with loaded boats in challenging water.

- Low-impact camping, food planning, and nutrition
- Navigation, weather, and seamanship
The Sea Kayak Level 2 Instructor is certified to
- Conduct Waterfront Kayak courses
- Teach Basic Kayak clinics
- Run Rolling Skills clinics
- Facilitate Level 1 and Level 2 Skills courses and certify paddlers at those levels
- Assist a Level 3 Instructor during a Level 3 Skills course
The Level 2 Instructor course is an intensive, scenario-based experience. You will learn to deliver clear lessons in broken water, surf, and current, and to lead groups effectively while teaching topics such as weather, navigation, and seamanship.
Prerequisites
- At least 18 years of age
- Paddle Canada Level 3 Skills certification

Instructor certifications
- Level 1 Instructor
- Registered coach on at least two Level 1 Skills courses

Teaching experience
- Lead instructor on a minimum of two Level 1 Skills courses within the past three years
- At least 15 days of logged instruction of Level 1 curriculum across varied sites and conditions
- First aid: current certification, minimum 14 hours, with CPR
- Paddling experience: significant sea kayaking experience in a wide variety of conditions and locations
Course Length
40 hours of instruction over 5 days, with a minimum of 30 hours on the water.
